Tata
Steel received the Oracle - Exemplary Implementation
Award for adopting technology to improve profitability.
The award was conferred by Shekhar Dasdgupta, managing
director, Oracle India and received by Varun Jha, chief
information officer, Tata Steel at the 5th Oracle Customer
Forum that was held in Kolkata on the October 22, 2003.
Mr Dasgupta said, "Tata Steel for their cold rolling mill is using Oracle Database
and Oracle9i Application Server, to run mission-critical planning and scheduling applications. Tata Steel's deployment of Oracle technologies is exemplary and path breaking. It has helped Tata Steel to increase profitability through enhanced efficiency and productivity."
Tata Steel has been using Oracle technology for the last eight
years and has developed expertise on Oracle tools, such as
forms, reports and discoverer-based applications. Tata Steel started
its relationship with Oracle, with custom-developed solutions on the Oracle platform. Oracle based systems are presently being run on most of the non-mainframe OLTP applications at the
mines, works, and other divisions such as bearings and tubes.
The most extensive use of the software has been
the 9i Application Server in the cold rolling
mill.
