Tata Steel elected executive committee member of
the International Iron and Steel Institute

The
board of directors, International Iron and Steel Institute
(IISI) has elected B. Muthuraman, managing director
of Tata Steel on the executive committee of the IISI.
This was announced at the thirty-seventh annual conference
of the IISI held on October 6, 2003. The executive committee
comprises of leading luminaries of the steel industry
across the globe. They include MDs and CEOs of companies
such as Nucor, Arcelor, ThyssenKrupp, Nippon Steel,
Kawasaki Steel and US Steel.
IISI is a non-profit research organisation; it is a world forum on
various aspects of the international steel industry. Headquartered in
Brussels, Belgium, IISI was set up in 1967 and was the first
international association dealing solely with one industry. IISI has
focused on the key issue of steel industry profitability.
Tata Steel under the leadership of B. Muthuraman has undertaken several
initiatives to become one of the very few EVA positive steel companies in
the world. It aspires to be EVA positive on a continuous basis year after
year. India's only "world class" steel manufacturer, Tata Steel is
committed to improving the quality of life and communities by using its
profits for their benefit. The company is on the verge of completing
hundred years of existence and has always strived to supply the highest
quality of products to its customers. By branding its offers, Tata Steel
has reduced its dependency on the cyclical nature of commodity prices.
Efforts undertaken in the recent past have yielded rich dividends and
record profits.
Mr Muthuraman joined Tata Steel in 1966 as a graduate
trainee after completing his metallurgical engineering
from IIT Madras. He has completed his management
education from XLRI, Jamshedpur and CEDEP, France.
He was appointed as managing director of Tata
Steel in July 22, 2001. He is also on the board
of directors of several companies and national
bodies.
