Tata's Jusco
is expanding water business Daily
News & Analysis August 25, 2006 Jamshedpur
Utilities & Service Company (Jusco) plans to tap the water supply management
business in Haldia, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore as and when the cities
open up their water supply service for private participation. Jusco managing director
Sanjiv Paul said the company was looking at tapping the opportunities in the water
and sewage business that are expected to be thrown open by the Jawaharlal Nehru
Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM). The wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Steel, which
provides municipal infrastructure to Jamshedpur city, has applied for a licence
to supply power outside Jamshedpur to the adjoining Adityapur area in Jharkhand.
Once the company receives approval from
the state electricity regulator, it will become the second entity, after Jharkhand
State Electricity Board (JSEB), to supply power in the area. Speaking to reporters,
Paul said the company has decided to move outside Jamshedpur limits, since it
was contiguous to the company's business. Jusco, created in 2004, by hiving off
two divisions of Tata Steel, recently won the bid to develop and manage a special
economic zone in Adityapur, along with construction major Gammon. Jusco provides
municipal services within the 16,000-acre area of the Jamshedpur township. |
