Tisco upbeat on Rs 1,600-cr TN project
The Indian Express — March 28, 2005

Tata Iron & Steel Co (Tisco) is upbeat about the titanium dioxide project in Tamil Nadu as the first part of the feasibility study has been found to be "very encouraging". The second part of the feasibility study is currently in progress and is expected to be completed by the end of 2005. "Thereafter, we will proceed with the construction of the plant; we plan to enter the market with our minerals by late 2007 or early 2008," Tisco MD B Muthuraman said.

Asked if scarcity of water in Tamil Nadu and the huge cost of setting up a desalination plant for supply of water would act as a deterrent to establishing the project, Muthuraman said, "Our initial evaluation of the project indicates that a robust titanium dioxide business can be set up even with a desalination plant," adding, "the Tamil Nadu government is proactive and is extending all required assistance in this connection."
