Established in 1958, Tata SSL (formerly known as Special Steels), is a pioneer in the manufacture of steel wires in India. It is the acknowledged market leader in the steel wire category, with a market share of about 30 per cent. It has an integrated, ISO-9002-certified facility for steel and wire rod manufacture. It is also the country’s largest exporter of steel wires. The company also produces narrow width CR-strips and high precision hot-rolled profiles and sections.

Areas of business
The steel wire product range includes a host of coated and uncoated wires for application in a wide gamut of industries, including automotive, wire, construction, fencing, and electrical applications. It produces high precision, hot rolled steel profiles and sections. Narrow width CR strips in mild, medium and high carbon steel are also manufactured. Its current sales turnover is worth US$ 179 million.

The company exports about 20 per cent of its annual production to overseas markets, such as the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
