Deutsche Bank wins the national finals of Tata Crucible — The Business Quiz 2007
Mumbai, September 21, 2007

The team of Vibendhu Tiwari and Rajiv Rai from Deutsche Bank won the national finals of Tata Crucible — The Business Quiz 2007, held on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at the Taj Lands End, Mumbai, in a 'winner takes it all' grand finale among 12 regional winner teams. The chief guest Ravi Kant, managing director, Tata Motors gave away cash prize of Rs2 lakh to the national winning team. A host of attractive prizes were given to all finalists.

Speaking about the quiz, Romit Chatterji, senior vice president, corporate affairs department, Tata Services said, "What makes the quiz truly unique is the format of the questions put to the teams. The contestants, however, learned that they had to use their presence of mind. You need to be mentally agile to survive a competition of this kind."

The level of competition was extremely challenging and the Quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam aka Pickbrain with his interactive style of quizzing and witty sense of humour had the audience on the edge of their seats and kept the excitement going. The quiz featured four rounds namely Business Quickies, World of Business, Tata World and Tata Crucible 2007. With each round the degree of difficulty was giving a great challenge to all the contestants to think faster.

The evening witnessed some brilliant quizzing and healthy competition between 12 teams contesting at the national finals namely Deutsche Bank, Savoir Faire, Satyam, Questa Software, KPMG, Accenture, Yahoo, Vizag Steel, Library on Net, Abhishek Industries, SKS Micro Finance and Bhilai Steel.

Each of these teams had already won a cash prize of Rs60,000 as regional finalists. At the national finals, they took away as gifts video camera, holiday packages from Ginger and Titan watches in addition to the cash prize and the trophies for national winner team.

A noteworthy feature of the quiz was the deployment of innovative and interesting questions that tested the teams not only on their understanding of business but presence of mind, teamwork and decision making as well.

In the internal track, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) team of Sabyasaschi Chandra and G Sreekanth from Kolkata emerged victorious as the Tata champions.

Following the tremendous response and success of the quiz over the last three years, the Tata Group extended the fourth edition of the TATA Crucible — the Business Quiz 2007 to twelve cities from eight cities in the previous year.

Recap of Tata Crucible — The Business Quiz 2007

Novelty of a new format:
The new format of Pyramid quizzing has been followed, with each round tougher to crack than the previous one in the quiz. This concept has been designed to analyse the speed of thought, agility of the mind and width of knowledge of the contestants participating in this quiz complementing the corporate world where at first level (implementor), one needs width of knowledge, second level (managerial) agility of mind is needed to solve problems and at last third level (strategic) one needs to have speed of thought to take best decisions in the organisation.

Overwhelming participation:

  • The quiz continued to attract teams from companies across sectors and outstation locations (locations where the quiz is not being held), with participation from over 1,600 teams. To cite an example, the Savoir Faire team travelled from Goa to Pune to be part of the quiz.
  • The Chandigarh round of the quiz had a team of army doctors who managed to win the prelims and made it to the stage round, while a new company Library on Net defeated established companies at Cochin to reach the national finals level.
