Tata
Sports Club holds 69th annual athletic meet
February 12, 2007
The
69th annual athletic meet of the Tata Sports Club was
held at the University Stadium, Marine Lines, Mumbai,
on Saturday and Sunday, February 3 and 4, 2007. In all,
127 athletes from 16 Tata companies participated in
the meet. Companies that participated were:

Steel - Wire Division
- Tata Motors - Pune/Jamshedpur
- Tata Power
- Tata Consultancy Services
- Tata Chemicals
- Tata Interactive Systems
- The Associated Building Company
- Tata Projects - Hyderabad
- Indian Hotels Company
- Taj President
- Taj Sats Air Catering
- Tata Sons
- Tata Services
- Telcon
- Voltas
A total of thirty-two events
were held.
The JRD Tata Individual Championship
Challenge Cup for Men was awarded to Sanjeev Kumar of
Tata Steel, Jamshedpur, with 9 points. The Tata Hydro
Sports Club Individual Championship Challenge Cup for
Women was won by Pooja Agarwal of Taj Sats Air Catering
with 9 points.
The Tata Sons Championship Challenge
Shield for Men was awarded to Tata Steel, Jamshedpur,
with 117 points. The J D Engineer Team Championship
Challenge Shield for Women was awarded to Taj Sats Air
Catering with 39 points.
The A P Sabavala Memorial Runner-up
Challenge Shield for Men was awarded to Tata Motors
with 44 points and the Hardlines Shield for Men's Team
Championship was awarded to Tata Steel (Wire Division)
with 26 points. The Tata Sports Club Runners-up "Women's
Team Championship Challenge Shield" was awarded
to Tata Power with 22 points.
Four teams participated in the
tug-of-war, namely Tata Chemicals, Tata Power, Voltas
and Tata Services. Tata Chemicals - Mithapur team won
the title, defeating Tata Power.
The following special awards
were also presented to outstanding sportsmen for their
contribution in various fields:
Avtar Singh of Telcon, Jamshedpur,
was given the Tata Electric Companies Officers' Guild
Special Award for Excellence in Sports for Cycling.
The Tata Electric Companies Officers'
Guild special award for The Best Gentleman Sportsperson
was awarded to Harbhajan Singh of Tata Steel for Handball
and Basketball.
The Special Award instituted
by the managing committee to a sportsperson for his
contribution to the cause of sports was given to Francis
Nunes of Tata Motors for Football.
Homi R Khusrokhan, managing
director, Tata Chemicals, was the chief guest and Dhanoo
Khusrokhan gave away the prizes and awards.
