XLRI Jamshedpur eastern region winner of the Tata Crucible — The Campus Quiz 2006

An inter-collegiate business quiz hosted by the Tata Group targeted at engineering colleges and B-schools across the country

Following the tremendous response and success of the quiz last year, the Tata Group organised the second edition of the Tata Crucible — The Campus Quiz 2006 — an inter-collegiate business quiz, focused on students of engineering colleges and business schools kicked off from Kolkata today at Taj Bengal. Tata Crucible — The Campus Quiz is the largest campus business quiz in India with cumulative prize money of over Rs 15 lakh, and attracted close to 400 teams in its first edition in 2005.

The regional round of Tata Crucible — The Campus Quiz 2006 was held today at Kolkata, where nearly 150 teams participated at the preliminary rounds. Teams from across the states of eastern India participated at the quiz. Six teams from preliminary round were selected at the regional final round. The quiz was hosted by ace quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam a.k.a Pickbrain.

Team selected at the regional final round were:

  • XLRI, Jamshedpur (Jacob Dijo and Arun Paul Alex)
  • IIT, Kharagpur (Ramshankar and Anurag Kumar)
  • IIM, Calcutta (Hiran Chandran and Harish D)
  • IIAS, Calcutta (Dipanjoy Roy and Neil Maity)
  • IIT, Kharagpur (Ravi Handa and Akhauri Kumar)
  • IIM, Calcutta (Abishek Pal and DVS Bharath)

After a very close contest amongst the teams, XLRI, Jamshedpur emerged as the winners from the eastern region followed by IIT, Kharagpur (Ramshankar and Anurag Kumar). The winning team and the runners-up team took home a cash prize of Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively along with gift hampers from different Tata Group companies.

XLRI, Jamshedpur will now travel to Mumbai to participate at the national finals of Tata Crucible — The Campus Quiz 2006 on February 26, 2006. They will compete with the winners from New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.

At prize distribution ceremony of the regional final round, Sangeeta Talwar, executive director, Tata Tea said, "Keeping in mind Tata Group's aim to connect with the Indian youth, we had decided to organise the Tata Crucible — The Campus Quiz 2006 as a annual event and seeing the enthusiastic response from the students across the eastern region we think it's a worthwhile effort on the part of the Group. It was a close battle of wits for the young minds, which garnered huge response and we have been successful in reaching out to the future business leaders. The interesting thing about this quiz is its openness and the research process deployed by the Quizmaster."

The team from ICFAI Chennai was the national winning team of Tata Crucible — The Campus Quiz 2005 winning a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a host of other attractive prizes. JBIMS, Mumbai and IIM Ahmedabad were the first and second runners up.
