Tata relief efforts in Gujarat - Bulletin II
January 29, 2001

Since our earlier bulletin in the morning, we have, sadly, received information about one casualty in Gujarat – a young employee of Telcon – V. Kothari and his wife have reportedly lost their lives.

Jamshed Kanga, representing the Tata Relief Committee, is flying to Bhuj tomorrow to assess the situation on the ground and liaise with local NGOs and the district administration to decide on the best mode of distributing relief to the affected families. Besides Tata Steel, some of the other Tata companies who have rushed relief material and personnel to Gujarat are Tata Engineering and Indian Hotels. They will be coordinating with Mr Kanga in Bhuj.

To ensure effective convergence of all Tata Relief Activities it is suggested that Tata companies coordinate their activities through any one of the following personnel who are part of the Tata Relief Committee:

Kapil Mehan, VP, marketing and sales,
Tata Chemicals Ltd.,
Bombay House, Mumbai.
Tel: 288 1751; email – kmehan@tata.com

S. N. Batliwalla, secretary and chief accountant,
Sir Dorabji Tata Trust,
Bombay House, Mumbai
Tel: 2867172; fax: 2826092; email: snbatliwalla@tata.com.

Any monetary contributions may kindly be made out in favour of the ‘Tata Relief Committee’ and sent to Mr Batliwalla.

We shall continue to keep you informed about developments.
