Tata conferred degree by IIT, Kharagpur

Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata
has been conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Science
by the prestigious engineering institute IIT Kharagpur.
The award was given in recognition of Tata's outstanding
leadership in globalising India and transforming the
Tata group as a formidable corporate entity, a press
release issued here today said.
Presenting the award to Tata, Prof Damodar Acharya,
Director, IIT Kharagpur, said: "Ratan N Tata is
a towering figure in the Indian engineering industry.
Throughout his career in various positions in the Tata
group of companies, he has set an unparalleled standard
of excellence."
"With very few ever to emulate his scale of achievements,
he symbolises India's entry into the global industrial
map," he added.
Tata has been the Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding
company of the Tata group since 1991. During his tenure,
the group's revenues have grown over eight-fold to annualised
group revenues of over USD 50 billion.
