The Hindu November 11, 2007
Two Tata companies, Jusco and
Voltas have entered into a memorandum of understanding
with the West Bengal Government for implementing a project
entailing development and maintenance of a water supply
project in the city's IT hub at Salt Lake. A company
release said that the build-own-transfer (BOT) project
was a unique model of public-private partnership and
the first such initiative for development and for 30-year
maintenance of a water and sewage infrastructure.
Jusco, the company formed by Tata Steel for infrastructure
maintenance in the steel city of Jamshedpur, had tied
up with sister concern Voltas for bidding for the project
which it won at an estimated value of Rs59 crore excluding
land cost.
The release said that 35 per cent of the project cost
would be funded by the Centre under the Jawaharlal Nehru
National Urban Renewal and Maintenance (JNNURM) fund.
The plan provides for underground network of water supply
and sewerage facilities.
Spanning 300 acres, Sector V of Salt Lake, on the eastern
fringes of the city, is a prime destination for information
technology and IT-enabled industries.
