Tata to inaugurate summit on CSR in Chennai

Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata
will inaugurate a two-day national summit on corporate
social responsibility (CSR) beginning here from June
14.
The event, being organised by industry body CII, will
deliberate on transformation in business models, processing
and leadership profile to meet developmental demands,
CSR - from bolt-on to built-in: The way ahead; social
entrepreneurs: new models, new ideas; developing CSR
priorities that match core business ideology: a win-win.
CSR could be the most effective strategy for business
to manage social and political challenges, chairman
of the summit, Venu Srinivasan, told reporters.
Engaging small and medium entrepreneurs (SME) in CSR
was very important, he said, adding that it was crucial
to shift focus to the SME sector, which is both labour
and capital-intensive.
Srinivasan, also the managing director of Sundaram Clayton
of the TVS Group, also informed that a TVS-CII Centre
for Responsive Corporate Citizenship was being set up
at the Mahindra World City, for which 2 acres of land
had been identified.
TVS would be spending Rs6 crore on setting up the centre,
which would provide community training and company CSR
training, he said.
