Mr MA Pathan, former Indian Oil Corporation chairman
and managing director, is the latest inductee into the Tata group’s
board of directors. Joining as the group’s resident director and
based in New Delhi, Mr Pathan will be replacing former Tata group
resident director Sujit Gupta, with effect from November 1, 2002.
“Pathan will represent the group’s interests in
the matters pertaining to the government affairs”, Tata Sons Ltd
said in a press statement on Sunday.
According to a Tata group spokesperson, the group
has historically had a resident director in Delhi to oversee matters
concerning government interests and the group’s interactions with
the central government.
A Cambridge graduate in economics with over 40 years
of diverse experience in the oil industry, Mr Pathan retired from IOC
in March this year. He was chairman and managing director of IOC from
February 1997 to March 2002.
