Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency also placed an order, worth Rs 16 million, for seven 5-kwp solar power plants for rural electrification.

Signed an agreement to acquire Eight O' Clock Coffee Company (EOC), USA, from Gryphon Investors for a total acquisition price of US $220 million (Rs 1,015 crore).

Developed South Korea's first liquefied natural gas-powered heavy tractor-trailer, an environment-friendly commercial vehicle. Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicles undertook the design and manufacture of the tractor under an arrangement sponsored by the Korea Gas Corporation.

Entered into a contract to supply bus chassis to Brazilian bus manufacturer Marcopolo for its South America operations. The joint venture will be set up with an investment of Rs 150-200 crore and will roll out 7,000 buses during the first year of its operations, which will be scaled up in a modular manner.
Announced the setting up of the first plant in West Bengal for the small car. The plant, spread over an area of 700 acres, will come up at the Singur block of Chandannagar sub-division in the Hooghly district.

Tata Steel board approved acquisition of steel major Corus at its meeting held on October 20, 2006. It involved the entire issued share capital of Corus Group at a price of 455 pence in cash for each share, valuing Corus at GBP 4.3 billion.

Announced an investment of $120 million at Richards Bay in South Africa to set up a ferro-chrome project in association with Tata Group's holding company in South Africa, Tata Africa, in a ratio of 90:10. Commercial production of ferro-chrome will start in October-December 2007.

Completed the acquisition of Direct Internet and its wholly owned subsidiary Primus Telecommunications India (PTIL) for an enterprise valuation of $16.7 million (Rs 75 crore). PTIL, a part of the US-based Primus Telecommunications Group, is the largest private wireless broadband internet access provider in India.
