Ryerson wins the Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award

Tata Ryerson, India's largest steel service
centre, has won the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi National
Quality Awards for the year 2007 in the category of
large scale service industry for its Jamshedpur unit.
The award ceremony will be held on April
10, 2008 at New Delhi. The Union Minister of Agriculture,
Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Sharad
Pawar, will give away the prestigious award. The company's
managing director, Sandipan Chakravortty, and chief
operating officer, Abraham Stephanos will receive the
award on behalf of Tata Ryerson.
The Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award
was instituted by the Bureau of Indian Standards in
1991 with a view to encouraging Indian manufacturing
and service organisations to strive for excellence and
giving special recognition to those who are considered
to be the leaders of quality movement in India. Past
winners have included companies like BHEL and L&T.
The award has been designed in line with respected awards
such as the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
in USA, the Deming Prize in Japan, and the European
Quality Award.
This award represents Tata Ryerson's commitment
to quality and business excellence.
Tata Ryerson pioneered the steel service
centre business in India and within a span of 10 years
has positioned itself as the undisputed market leader
in the rapidly evolving steel service centre industry
in India, starting with a meager turnover of Rs1.8 crore
in 1997-98, and achieving an turnover of more than Rs1300
crore in 2007-08, with a CAGR of more than 50 per cent
for last five years.
Tata Ryerson operates with 18 sales offices
and 6 processing facilities at Jamshedpur, Pune, and
Faridabad. It has three upcoming facilities at Tada,
Pantnagar and Singur.
