B. Muthuraman, managing
director, Tata Steel, inaugurated Tata Ryerson
Limited’s 'precision CR slitting line' and a 'narrow
precision cut-to-length line' on April 2, 2002.
Pro-Eco, Canada, supplied the former, while Red
Bud Co, USA, supplied the latter.
With the commissioning of these highly sophisticated
equipment, Tata Ryerson’s capability to process
precision CR materials can now be ranked as not
only the best in India but also one of the best
in the world. The product range has expanded from
hot-rolled sheets and blanks to both hot- and
cold-rolled sheets and blanks, besides galvanised
sheets.
Coupled
with a wide variety of other processing equipment
for hot-rolled products and commercial cold-rolled
products at its Jamshedpur and Pune units, Tata
Ryerson is the largest service centre in the country,
capable of handling and executing a variety of
services for its customers in India and abroad.
Tata
Ryerson entered the distribution market in a big
way last year with the opening of new sales outlets
in Chhatisgarh, Haryana and Chennai, besides upgrading
its existing ones in Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Faridabad
and Pune.
Sales
through distribution grew by almost 60 per cent
in the year just concluded – a remarkable achievement
in a highly demanding and competitive market.
The company's production volumes (tolling) have
increased by more than 25 per cent over 2000-01,
with turnover rising up by more than 50 per cent.
Tata Ryerson is aiming for equally spectacular
growth in the new financial year.
