Chattopadhyay appointed joint managing director, Tata
Refractories

Chattopadhyay has been appointed as joint managing director
of Tata Refractories with effect from April 1, 2008.
He was the executive director of the company since May
2002. Earlier he had worked as senior VP and chief executive
of Refractories Business of ACC (presently ACE Refractories),
whose business grew manifold during his tenure. He also
turned around Khambalia plant of Dalmia group during
1988 from a troubled unit to a money-spinner when he
was the works manager there.
An MTech (chemical) with specialisation in ceramic
technology PhD (tech) from Kolkata University, Chattopadhyay
is a noted refractories technologist in the country
and has authored nearly 40 technical papers which were
presented in national and international seminars and
published in technical journals. He is also a guest
lecturer in Kolkata University. In recognition of his
contribution, he was conferred with Best Refractories
Technologist award in 1996.
Having completed Global Management Development Programme
from the University of Michigan Business School
and INSEAD Program (Sr Executive Management Development
Program) from France in 2005, Chattopadhyay is also
an excellent man manager. He has been instrumental in
substantial business growth of TRL as well as in bringing
about a number of systemic and process improvements.He
is presently holding the post of chairman of IRMA (Indian
Refractories Makers Association) and in that capacity
has organised an International conference, IREFCON08.
