Tata Refractories gets Integrated Management System (IMS) certification

Tata Refractories, Belpahar has been awarded Integrated Management System (IMS) certification by BVQI (Bureau Veritas Quality International). By virtue of this, TRL is now certified to three management systems, which are:

1. Quality Management System — ISO 9001: 2000
2. Environment Management System — ISO 14001: 2004
3. Occupational Health & safety Management System — OHSAS 18001:1999.

TRL is the first Refractories company and one of the very few companies in India to have successfully implemented IMS.

This initiative was taken in July 2005 by the company and had launched a yearlong campaign through training, reviews, formation of steering committees, documentations and internal audits. The final audit was done by BVQI and after a series of stringent assessments, the certification was awarded. This certification covers TRL’s main Works at Belpahar, Jehangir Ghandy Hospital, all out station offices in Jamshedpur, Salem and other Marketing offices.

Implementation of an Integrated Management System provides specific benefits like:

TRL had earlier adopted Quality Management System (QMS) (Current Standard ISO 9001: 2000) during the year 1994-95. In view of the emerging scenario of globalisation and increasing need for compliance to the requirements of the stakeholders and also for continual business improvement based on sustainable development, TRL went for IMS certification to include EMS (ISO 14001) & OHSAS (OHSAS 18001).

Earlier the R&D Laboratory of the company had got the prestigious ISO 17025 certification from NABL, which is another unique achievement of the company.
