Projects commissions seawater reverse osmosis plant
at
Kudankulam for Nuclear Power Corporation

Nuclear
Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is
in the process of setting up their prestigious
nuclear power project (2 units of 1000 MW each)
at Kudankulam, Tamil Nadu. To cater to the potable
water requirement of the main plant and the residential
complex, NPCIL had contracted Tata Projects Limited
(TPL) to undertake the work of EPC basis for setting
up seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant of 2
x 25 M3 / hour capacity with an inbuilt
expansion capability of additional stream of 25
M3 / hour.
The
scope of work consisted of detailed bathymetric
survey, seawater intake and outfall systems, pre-treatment
system, reverse osmosis block, product water system,
and a cross country pipeline, 11 km long, to connect
the main plant with the township.
Engineering
support for the project was provided by TCE Consulting
Engineers Limited and the process by M/s Doshi
Ion Exchange and Chemical Industries Ltd., Ahmedabad,
in association with Dow Chemicals, USA. Work was
completed in 14 months, within the scheduled delivery
period.
The
above seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant, including
allied facilities, was inaugurated and dedicated
to the nation by V K Chaturvedi, chairman and
managing director of Nuclear Power Corporation
of India Limited (NPCIL) at Kudankulam, on August
1, 2002. K P Singh, managing director, TPL, was
also present during the inaugural function.
