Tata Power Trading was incorporated in 2003 with an
equity capital of Rs 2 crore. It was the first company
in India to receive a power trading license from the
Central Electricity Regulatory Commission in June 2004.
Initially, the company was allotted a category A
license which restricted it to trade up to 100 MUs.
This license was elevated to category F
to cater to the requirements of growing business. With
the upgrade, the company can now trade in higher volumes
without any upper limit, by enhancing its equity base
to Rs 20 crore.
Areas
of business
Tata Power Trading is in the business of trading electrical
power in India. The company sources surplus power from
various states / private sector power generation utilities,
captive power plants and state-owned electricity boards.
Its trading partners include the Maharashtra State Electricity
Board, the Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board, the
West Bengal State Electricity Board, the Power &
Electricity Department of Government of Mizoram, the
Damodar Valley Corporation, the Haryana Power Generation
Corporation and Delhi Transco among others.
The company has also commenced
trading surplus power from the captive power plants
belonging to Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) in Rajasthan
and Jindal Thermal Power Company Limited in Karnataka.
