SED set to develop electronic warfare system The

Power Company (TPC) is stepping up revenues through its strategic electronics
division (SED). The division has bagged licences for developing mission-critical
electronic warfare systems for the Indian military. Department of industrial policy
and promotion, which comes under ministry of commerce and industry, has issued
seven licences to Tata Power SED, according to a Tata Power communiqué. These
licences will enable the company to be prime contractor to the Ministry of Defence
for designing, development, manufacturing, assembling and upgrading of mission
critical systems in seven core areas of defence strategic electronics. Tata Power
SED is also looking at developing and manufacturing warfare enablers, specialised
antennas and masts, specialised software for defence and civilian applications,
global positioning systems (GPS), aircraft, helicopters, air defence guns, tanks,
combat vehicles, anti-tank weapons systems and rocket and missile launchers. "Over
the next five years these licences will open a domestic addressable market of
over Rs 20,000 crore for the company. Additionally, business opportunities through
OFFSET for systems design, engineering and testing services will also be targeted
by the company, opening up the export market," said Rahul Chaudhry, chief
executive officer, Tata Power SED. |
