starts construction of Rs 370-cr Jojobera plant

Tata
Power Company (TPC) has launched the construction
of 125 mw of Jojobera plant, Jojobera to Ramachandrapur
with a total investment of Rs 370 crore. The power
from this plant, which is expected to be commissioned
by October 2005, would be sold to Power Trading
Corporation, TPC’s distribution arm in New Delhi
and other consumers directly.
The per unit tariff is expected to be Rs 2 and
when it would be transmitted to other consumers
directly it would be Rs 2.30 - Rs 2.40 per unit.
TPC's managing director Firdose Vandrevala said,
"TPC is the first utility to take advantage and
implement the provisions in Electricity Act 2003.
It will lay 34 kms long dedicated transmission
line from Jojobera to Ramachandrapur in Jharkhand.
We anticipate that Jojobera will come to be seen
as the blueprint for merchant power plants in
the country.”
The 370.5 mw Jojobera Corporation, plant generated
1,761 million unit with an overall plant availability
factor of 92.8 per cent in 2002-03. The plant
currently provides power to Tata Steel and Damodar
Valley Corporation. With the commissioning of
120 mw of merchant plant, Jojobera plant’s installed
capacity would rise to 427.5 mw.
