Tata Power’s last
hydel generator at the Khopoli hydro power station
was activated on Thursday. Set up in 1911, it
has six generating units of 12MW each, which are
still partially in operation. In 1999, Voith Siemens
Hydro was awarded the contract to build a new
hydro power station next to the old one, to be
equipped with three units with an output of 24MW
each. Of these, two units have already been commissioned
in March ’01 and ’02.
