Tata Petrodyne Limited (TPL) is a 100-per cent subsidiary of Tata Sons. Incorporated in 1993, and originally promoted by Tata Industries, TPL spearheads the Group's foray into the oil and natural gas industry.

Areas of business
The company is engaged in oil and natural gas exploration and production activities. It regularly participates in auctions conducted by the government of India for allotment of blocks for exploration. In strategic alliance with reputed Indian and international oil companies, Tata Petrodyne has successfully bid for several such projects, including the following:

• CY-OS-90/1 block with Hardy Exploration and Production (India) Inc
• CB-OS/2 block with Cairn Energy
• CB-OS/1 block with ONGC
• Two blocks in the Palar (PR-OSN-2004/1) and Kerala-Konkan basin (KK-DWN-2004/1) in association with Cairn Energy and ONGC

In March 2007 it also acquired a 25-per cent participating interest in a gas-bearing block in the North Sea.
