May 3, 2006

Commercial vehicles
The company’s sales of commercial vehicles in April 2006 in the domestic market were 19,182 units, an increase of 129 per cent over 8,368 vehicles sold in April last year. The growth in April 2006 is on a low base of April 2005, which was due to unanticipated difficulties in certification and procurement of some critical parts. M&HCV sales stood at 11,625 units, a growth of 121.5 per cent over April 2005, while LCV sales were 7,557 units, a growth of 142.2 per cent over April 2005.

Passenger vehicles
The passenger vehicle business reported a total sale of 13,328 vehicles in the domestic market in April 2006, an increase of 4.7 per cent over April 2005. The Indica sold 8,493 units, while the Indigo family registered sales of 2,587 units. Vehicle sales were adversely affected during the month due to labour strife at a key vendor facility. Efforts are underway to ensure recovery. The Sumo and Safari accounted for sales of 2,248 units.

Exports
The company's sales from exports were 3,572 vehicles in April 2006 as compared to 2,785 vehicles in April 2005, an increase of 28.3 per cent.
