Tata Daewoo introduces Novus range of medium size trucks in South Korea
December 23, 2005

  • Power output of 240 PS
  • Available in three models: 4.5T, 5T and 7T

Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company (TDCV), the second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer of South Korea and a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Motors, today unveiled the Novus range of medium size trucks, in 4.5T, 5T and 7T models, in South Korea.

Offering the power and space of a heavy truck in the medium size class; the Novus range of medium size trucks will be the most competitive vehicle in its class. It comes with the highest engine output, biggest deck size, most spacious cabin, and trim levels as good as passenger cars. It will create a turning point in the Korean truck industry, by offering customers, for the first time, a wider choice in medium size trucks.

Ravi Kant, chairman of TDCV, today unveiled the range at COEX in Seoul. The range will be sold from January 2006 through TDCV’s channel partner, Daewoo Motors Sales Corporation, which at present sells TDCV’s existing range of heavy commercial vehicles.

This new Novus range has been created after rigorous research and customer survey for 30 months. The Novus medium size truck range thus truly reflects customer needs. It guarantees excellent quality, higher durability and matchless performance. Its safety features meet the European Cap Safety test. Along with improved power train and superior comfort, it will set a new benchmark in medium size trucks.

Its unique features include:

  • Highest engine output with an IVECO NEF engine (5,880 cc displacement), with good performance credentials in European markets. The power output of 240 PS and torque of 82 Kg.m. ensures powerful performance even in toughest conditions. The common rail injection system meets Euro III standards, and can even meet Euro IV standard, to be implemented by 2008.
  • Widest loading space, best in its class of vehicles;
  • Best in class fuel efficiency;
  • For the first time in Korea, full floating air cab suspension and full air suspension seat to ensure more safety and comfort for drivers;
  • An aerodynamically designed cab exterior in line with European style;
  • Large front view glass, with a wide-angle view of 40.5 degrees;
  • One-touch power window, full auto A/C, MP3 CD player, along with modern and refined interiors, like that of a luxury passenger car.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Ravi Kant said, "We are happy to introduce the Novus range of medium size trucks. Offering a product, which has never been seen before in Korea, the new range demonstrates Tata Motors’ and TDCV’s commitment to the Korean customer and economy."

K O Chae, President of TDCV, said, "The new Novus range is a reflection of our philosophy of customer focus. Tata Motors is extending full support to us to translate our philosophy into reality. I am sure that the new range will make a great impact and set a new standard in medium size trucks."

Dr D H Lee, president of DWMS, said, "The Novus range will offer greater choice to customers. With a larger portfolio ranging from heavy trucks to medium size trucks, we will enhance our competitive strength."

Besides being the second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the domestic market, TDCV has emerged as Korea’s largest exporter of heavy commercial vehicles. It currently accounts for 65 per cent of all such exports from the country. About 40 per cent of its turnover is from exports to countries like South Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia. Tata Motors had acquired TDCV in 2004.
