Tata Motors introduces the power-packed Tata TL 4x4

Tata Motors, India’s largest automobile company, today announced the launch of a new range of Tata TL 4x4 — India’s first sports utility truck (SUT) that doubles as a pick-up as well as an SUV. Combining raw power with sheer elegance, the Tata TL 4x4 is the first of its kind offering by any Indian automobile company. The Tata TL 4x4 is a sturdy 1.2 tonne war horse with sporty and contemporary features offering the ride and handling characteristics of a passenger car.

The Tata TL 4x4 is yet another exciting and contemporary product that carries heavy loads while negotiating the toughest of terrains and at the same time an ideal vehicle for customers with a penchant for adventure and outdoors. It provides a pickup that keeps one way ahead of the rest. The Tata TL 4x4 has many firsts to its name. A gradability of 72 per cent, for the first time in India makes it adaptable for steep inclines. Also, for the very first time in India for light truck applications, the Tata TL 4x4 runs on tubeless tyres, thus ensuring that there is no fear of tyre bursting at high speeds. Additionally, to ensure luxury and comfort, air-conditioning is a standard fitment.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, P M Telang, president – light and small commercial vehicles, Tata Motors, said, "Tata Motors has always been at the forefront of providing customers with product offerings that focuses on aesthetics, style and design. The TL 4x4 has proven its mettle in South Africa, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the Middle East through extreme climes and arduous terrain. The launch of TL 4x4 in India is another milestone in our constant endeavour.

The Tata TL 4x4 is equipped with a 1948cc indirect injection turbo-charged intercooled diesel engine generating a power output of 92 PS at 4300rpm and a torque of 190Nm at 2000-3000rpm. With a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 2.78 tons and a power / weight ratio of 33 (highest in the light truck category), the Tata TL 4x4 is a rugged beauty built to handle the toughest conditions. The Tata TL 4x4 range offers three derivatives consisting of a 4x2 double cab, 4x4 single cab and a 4x4 double cab in colours of quartz black and artic silver.

A five-speed synchromesh gearbox with well-distributed gear ratios facilitates easy and efficient driving. A four-wheel drive transfer case provides electronic shift on the fly feature to shift to 4x4 mode. The Tata TL 4x4 is equipped with an independent front suspension with torsion bars and double wishbones springs and a leaf spring rigid suspensions at the rear, thus providing good rigidity and comfort like an SUV.
