Motors: Total vehicle sales at 30,589 units, up 2.7
per cent, exports up 96.9 per cent

Commercial
vehicles
Total sales of commercial vehicles were 15,387 units
in May 2005, of which 13,333 units were in the domestic
market and 2,054 units were in the export market. Domestic
M&HCV sales were 7,171 vehicles and LCV sales stood
at 6,162 vehicles for May 2005. Shortage of certain
critical items continued in May 2005 and the company
is working closely with the suppliers to improve the
situation.
The new mini-truck Tata ACE was
introduced in the month of May 2005. Initially available
across the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra
Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory
of Pondicherry, the ACE has evoked an enthusiastic response
in these markets.
Cumulative sales of commercial
vehicles stood at 25,546 units for the fiscal, of which
21,701 vehicles were in the domestic market and 3,845
vehicles were in the export market.
Passenger vehicles
The passenger vehicle business reported a total sale
of 14,005 vehicles in May 2005 in the domestic market.
Cumulative sales for the fiscal at 26,741 units are
up by 4 per cent.
The Indica registered a
sale of 8,480 units, while the Indigo registered a sale
of 3,031 units. The Sumo and the Safari accounted for
sales of 2,494 units in the month.
Exports
The company exported 3,251 vehicles in May 2005, an
increase of 96.9 per cent over 1,651 vehicles in May
2004.
