Motors August ’04 sales continue upward growth trend;
total sales at 30,113 units, up 21 per cent; Indigo
crosses the 50,000sale milestone

Tata
Motors reported a total sale (including exports)
of 30,113 vehicles in August ’04, representing
an increase of 21 per cent over August sales last
year. Cumulative sales for the period April-August
’04 were 145,088 units as against 1,10,216 vehicles
sold last year, representing a growth of 32 per
cent.
Commercial vehicles
Sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market
in August ’04 were 13,682 units, as against 11,990
units sold in August last year, representing a
growth of 14 per cent. M&HCV sales at 9368
units grew 16 per cent and LCV sales at 4314 units
grew 10 per cent over August sales last year.
Cumulative sales in the domestic market for the
period April-August ’04 were 66,774 units, a growth
of 33.5 per cent over 50,015 units sold in the
same period last year.
Passenger Vehicles
The passenger car business reported domestic sales
of 13,966 units in August ’04, representing a
growth of 19.7 per cent over August ’03 sales.
The sales were impacted to an extent by the disruption
of dispatches due to the transporters’ strike.
Cumulative sales in the April - August period
in the domestic market were 70,022 units, representing
a growth of 29.7 per cent over the corresponding
period last year.
Indica sales grew by 21.6 per cent for August
’04 at 8530 units and cumulative sales at 43,200
units for the period April-August ’04 recorded
a growth of 33.5 per cent over the same period
last fiscal. Indigo registered a sale of 3,081
units in August ’04 and crossed the 50,000 sale
milestone during August ‘04. This achievement
in a short span of 20 months since launch, would
be the fastest for any sedan in the industry.
Cumulative sales for the Indigo at 15,348 units
are growing by 42 per cent and the car continues
to be the best selling sedan in the country. Utility
Vehicle sales at 2,355 units grew 3 per cent over
August sales last year, and cumulative sales at
11,474 units this fiscal are showing a growth
of 6 per cent over the corresponding period last
year.
Exports
The Company’s exports for the month of August
’03 were 2465 units as against 1,167 nos. sold
in August ’03. Cumulative export sales for the
period April-August ’03 were 8292 units, as against
6,232 units sold in the same period last year,
representing an increase of 33 per cent.
