Total sales at
25,265 units, up 56.5 per cent

Tata
Motors reported a total sale (including exports)
of 25,265 vehicles in November 2003, an increase
of 56.5 per cent over the 16,147 vehicles sold
in November 2002. During the April-November period
this year, the company’s total sales were 1,90,649
units as against the 1,31,329 units sold in the
same period last year, representing a growth of
45.2 per cent.
Commercial vehicles (CVs)
The company’s sale of commercial vehicles in the
domestic market in November 2003 stood at 12,626
units, an increase of 57.9 per cent over 7,998
vehicles sold in November 2002. Total CV sales
in the domestic market from April to November,
2003, were 89,661 units, an increase of 43.0 per
cent over the 62,696 units sold in the same period
last year.
The company recorded a significant increase in
sales in its medium and heavy commercial vehicles
(M&HCV) and its light commercial vehicles
(LCV) segments. M&HCV sales for the first
eight months of the fiscal were 59,877 units (43,027
units last year), a growth of 39.2 per cent, while
LCV sales at 29,784 units (19,669 units) grew
51.4 per cent.
Passenger vehicles
The company recorded a sale of 10,735 passenger
vehicles in the domestic market in November 2003,
a growth of 41.6 per cent over November sales
last year, despite some availability constraints
due to export commitments. Cumulative sales for
the fiscal at 89,973 units grew 42.8 per cent
over the last fiscal.
Indica, with a sale of 6,000 units in November
2003, grew by 4.4 per cent and at 53,103 units
in the first eight months of the fiscal has grown
10.7 per cent on a year-on-year basis. Indigo
sales were at 2,323 units, with cumulative sales
for the fiscal being 17,874 units, and maintains
a market leadership position in its segment for
the fiscal. Utility vehicle sales at 2,431 units
in November 2003 have grown 32.6 per cent with
cumulative sale of 19,064 units, showing a growth
of 26.5 per cent. Sales for the Safari have grown
by 22 per cent this fiscal while sales of the
Sumo have risen by 27 per cent.
Exports
The company’s exports for the month of November
2003 were 1,904 units, as against the 567 units
sold in November 2002. Cumulative export sales
for the April-November period this year stood
at 10,963 units, a growth of 95.3 per cent over
the 5,614 vehicles exported in the same period
last year.
