Total
sales at 26,862 units, up 39 per cent

Tata
Motors reported a total sale (including exports)
of 26,862 vehicles in October 2003, an increase
of 39 per cent over 19,306 vehicles sold in October
2002. The sales for the period of April-October,
2003 was 165,384 units, a jump of 43.6 per cent
over 115,182 units sold in the corresponding period
last year.
Commercial vehicle (CV)
The company sold 12,862 vehicles in October 2003
in the domestic market, an increase of 30 per
cent over October 2002 sales. Total CV sales in
the domestic market at 77,035 units showed a growth
of 40.8 per cent over 54,698 units sold in the
same period last fiscal.
Medium and heavy commercial vehicles sales for
the first seven months of the year stood at 50,975
units (37,460 units last year), representing a
growth of 36 per cent, and light commercial vehicles
sales at 26,060 units (17,238 units last year)
grew 51.2 per cent.
Passenger vehicle
The passenger car business unit recorded a sale
of 12,263 vehicles in October 2003 in the domestic
market, a growth of 37.6 per cent over the corresponding
period last year. Cumulative sales for the fiscal
at 79,238 units have grown 43 per cent.
Indica, with sales of 7,200 units in October 2003
and 47,103 units in the first seven months of
the year has shown a growth of 11.5 per cent on
year-on-year basis. Indigo sales were 2,285 units,
with cumulative sales for the fiscal being 15,551
units. The car continues to retain its best selling
position in the entry mid-size segment on a fiscal
and calendar year basis. Utility vehicle sales
at 2,778 units in October 2003 have grown 61.6
per cent with cumulative sales of utility vehicles
at 16,633 units showing a growth of 25.7 per cent.
Sumo has registered a growth of 25.5 per cent
in the fiscal, while the Safari has grown by 29
per cent.
Exports
The company’s exports for the month of October
2003 were 1,737 units as against 506 units sold
in October 2002. Cumulative export sales for the
period April-October 2003 were 9,059 units, an
increase of 79.5 per cent over 5,047 units sold
in the same period last year.
