Total
sales at 28,302, up 49.8 per cent

Tata
Motors reported a total sale (including exports)
of 28,302 vehicles in September 2003, an increase
of 49.8 per cent over 18,885 vehicles sold in
September 2002.
The six month period ending September 2003, saw
sales volumes jump significantly to 1,38,522 as
against 95,876 in the same period last year, an
increase of 44.5 per cent.
Commercial vehicles
The company sold 15,154 commercial vehicles(CV)
in September 2003, an increase of 61.1 per cent
over September 2002 sales and 18.72 per cent over
August 2003 sales.
Total CV sales in the first half of the year at
68,467 showed a growth of 41.99 per cent over
48,219 in the same period last year.
Medium and heavy commercial vehicles sales (44,378)
for the first half grew by 37.9 per cent and light
commercial vehicles sales (24,089) grew by 50.09
per cent, indicating a robust performance across
all segments.
Passenger vehicles
The passenger car business unit achieved a sale
of 13,006 vehicles in September in the domestic
market — a growth of 40.5 per cent. Cumulative
sales for the fiscal at 66,977 have grown by 44
per cent.
Indica registered a sale of 7,539 in September
and at 39,903 for the fiscal and has grown by
14 per cent. Indigo sales were 2,469 for the month
and 13,266 for the six months of the financial
year. Utility vehicles sales at 2,998 grew by
46 per cent in September, and have been growing
for five of the six months of the fiscal. The
newly launched petrol Safari was well received
in the market and enabled the brand’s sale to
register a growth of 54 per cent in September
2003 over September 2002. Cumulative utility vehicle
sales at 13,857 for the fiscal have grown by 20.4
per cent. Sumo has registered a growth of 20 per
cent for the fiscal while the Safari has grown
by 23 per cent.
Exports
The company’s exports for the month of September
2003 were 1,180 as against 899 sold in September
2002. Cumulative export sales for the period April
- September 2003 were 7,322 as against 4,541 sold
in the same period last year representing an increase
of 61.24 per cent.
