Indica
crosses the 2,00,000 sale milestone
September
23, 2002
The
Indica crossed the 2,00,000 sale mark on September
22, 2002, inclusive of exports, in 43 months since
the commencement of its sales. While the first
1,00,000 sale mark was achieved in March 2001
within a span of 25 months, the second 1,00,000
sale has been achieved in just 18 months.
Indica
became the leader in the compact (B) segment in
September 2001, and since then has maintained
its position as the largest selling car in its
category barring the period of April-May 2002
when the plant underwent a planned shut-down for
the Indigo production switchover activities.
Indica
has grown by 26 per cent this fiscal (April –
August 2002) against a segment growth rate of
only 10 per cent and the overall passenger vehicle
market growth of a marginal 0.4 per cent. Its
market share at 22.4 per cent is ahead of its
share of 19.7 per cent in the April – August 2001
period.
