Total sales up by 31.3 per cent, passenger vehicles
post 35 per cent growth
Commercial vehicle sales up by 27 per cent, first
quarter sales up 45.6 per cent

Tata
Engineering reported a total sale of 16,853 vehicles
in the domestic market in June ’02, representing
an increase of 31.3 per cent over 12,833 vehicles
sold in June ’01. First quarter sales stood at
38,961 as compared to 33,191 vehicles sold in
the corresponding period last year, showing a
sharp increase of 17.4 per cent.
Commercial
vehicles
Sales of commercial vehicles continued
to show a healthy growth with total sales volumes
of 7700 in June ’02 registering an increase of
27 per cent over June last year. First quarter
sales of 21,376 commercial vehicles showed a significant
45.6 per cent growth over 14,694 vehicles sold
in the corresponding period last year.
Passenger
vehicles
The passenger car business registered a total
sale of 9154 in the domestic market registering
a growth of 35 per cent over June ’01 and 75 per
cent over May ’02. The company ended the first
quarter with a total domestic sale of 17,590 vehicles
and an overall share of 11.5 per cent in the passenger
vehicle market.
Indica registered a sale of 7056 in June ’02,
growing by 48 per cent over June ’01 and continued
to lead the compact segment market. The Indica
ended the first quarter with total sale of 11,905.
Utility vehicle sales at 2097 grew by 4 per cent
over June ’01 and ended the first quarter with
a cumulative sale of 5684.
