Indica sales up 49% Total Sales in August up 9.8%

Tata
Engineering reported a total sale of 14,399 vehicles
in August 2001, representing an increase of 9.8%
over 13,108 vehicles sold in August 2000.
Commercial
Vehicles
The Company reported a sale of 4,293 nos. medium
and heavy commercial vehicles in August 2001 which
was 26.3% higher than August 2000 and 3.6% over
July this year. LCV sales at 2310 nos. grew 33.2%
over July 2001, but showed a drop of 6% as compared
to August last year.
The
Company’s total sales of commercial vehicles in
August 2001 at 6,603 nos. showed an increase of
12.5% over 5,870 nos. sold in the corresponding
period last year and 12.3% over the previous month
this year.
Passenger
Car
The passenger car business registered a total
sale of 7,216 vehicles in the domestic market
in August ’01, which was a 22% growth over August
’00 and ended the first five months of the current
financial year with a cumulative sale of 3,1723
vehicles. The Company increased its market share
to 11.2% of the total passenger car and utility
vehicle market comprising of 13 manufacturers.
Indica
sales grew for the third consecutive month with
a growth of 49% at 5,157 nos. in August ’01. Cumulative
sales for the car at 22130 nos. have also grown
at 3.5% this financial year. The car’s market
share increased to 19% in its segment at the end
of August ’01. Utility vehicle sales at 2,052
nos. in August ’01 grew by 18% over July ’01 but
declined by 15% over August ’00. Cumulative sales
for the financial year stood at 9,549 nos. with
a market share of 23% in its segment.
