Engineering's July 2001 sales figures Commercial
Vehicles sales up 5.5%. Indica sales up 19%

Vehicles
Tata Engineering reported a sale of 5832 commercial
vehicles in July 2001 as against 5530 nos. in
July 2000, an increase of 5.5%. The medium and
heavy commercial vehicles registered a sale of
4115 nos. in July 2001 as against 3483 nos.
in July ’00, showing an increase of over 18%.
LCV sales at 1717 nos. showed a drop of 16% over
2047 nos. sold in the corresponding month last
year.
Tata
Engineering said that this was the first time
in over a year that sales for the reporting period
showed an increase over the corresponding period
last year.
Passenger
cars
Tata Indica registered a sale of 4205 nos. in
July ’01 which was a growth of 19% over July ’00
sales. This robust performance came on the back
of a 16.5 % growth in June this year
and the car ended the first 4 months of the current
financial year with a total sale of 16,973 nos.
Indica’s market share in its segment stood at
18.2% - an increase over 16.8% that it had last
year. Utility vehicle sales in July were at 1744
nos. with a cumulative sale of 7497 nos. for the
current financial year. Safari sales grew 21%
with the newly launched Ex model finding wide
acceptance in the market. The Company’s utility
vehicle market share stood at 23% at the end of
July.
The
passenger car business unit of the Company registered
a total sale of 5952 nos. for the month with a
cumulative sale of 24,507 vehicles till the end
of July. The overall industry has grown by a marginal
0.7% for the first 4 months of the current financial
year with significant growth only in June.
