India's
leading vehicle manufacturer, Tata Engineering,
has unveiled its range in the Chinese market.
The company had its first international premier
of the Tata Magna large car at an impressive stand
at the 9th International Automobile and Manufacturing
Technology Exhibition, popularly known as the
Auto Shanghai 2001, which opened at three venues
simultaneously in Shanghai on the 18th June. Also
on display are the Tata Indica and Tata Telcoline
4x4 crew-cab pickup.
With the impending accession of China to the WTO regime, Tata Engineering sees potential
for its range of passenger and commercial vehicles in the country.
China has traditionally been a large car market and the Magna drew a positive response at
the Motor Show.
Increasing access to retail financing for personal car purchases has
resulted in the small car market in China witnessing an aggressive growth in recent years.
The Tata Indica offers the right value proposition for the Chinese customers. Speaking to
the press at the start of the show, Rajiv Dube, general manager, passenger car business
unit, said "After a successful run in India against some of the largest small car
manufacturers of the world, the Indica is an attractive proposition for the Chinese
market, given the fact that motoring in China is evolving on a similar path as in India
and the needs of Chinese families are similar to Indians."
The Tata Telcoline is a tough and versatile pickup,
currently enjoying over 6% market share in European
markets. It is expected to appeal to both the
passenger and commercial vehicle buying segments
in China.
