Sumo sales lead rally of Tata Engineerings
March performance. Commercial vehicles sales increase
by 49% in March 2001.

Tata
Engineering reported a sale of 21431 vehicles
in March 2001 an increase of 45% over February
sales of 14759 vehicles
and has ended the financial year with a cumulative
sale of 170599 nos.
Commercial
Vehicles
Commercial vehicle sales at 12522 nos. registered
a jump of 49% over February sales of 8400 nos.
The Company sold 8169 Medium & Heavy Commercial
Vehicles, which is an increase of 54% over February
sales of 5291 nos. and 4353 Light Commercial Vehicles,
an increase of 40% over the 3109 vehicles sold
in February 01. Sales of Commercial Vehicles
in the year 2000-01 stood at 84914 nos.
Passenger
Cars
March 2001 saw the passenger car business unit
of the Company register two milestones - achievement
of the 100,000th sale of the Indica
and the re-.emergence of the Sumo as the number
1 selling multi-utility vehicle after 3 years.
The passenger car business unit registered a sale
of 8909 vehicles in March 2001 which was a growth
of 39.8% over February 2001. The Company achieved
a cumulative sale of 71961 nos. for the financial
year and retained its position amongst the top
3 largest selling automobile companies in the
country.
Indica
continued its robust performance with a sale of
5255 nos. in March - a growth of 44% over February
2001 - and ended the year with a cumulative sale
of 43,823 cars in the domestic market.
Utility
vehicle sales ended on a high of 3625 vehicles
in March 01 - a growth of 34% over February
01 - and the Company registered a cumulative
sale of 27899 vehicles for the financial year.
Sumo sales grew by 3% over the previous financial
year in a market which has witnessed a negative
growth for practically all brands.
Exports
Exports recorded an increase of 17.2% in the year
2000-2001 with exports touching 13724 vehicles
as against 11709 vehicles in the corresponding
period of the previous year.
