Financial Express December 16, 2004
CFOs
are the preservers of assets and the faith of
the stakeholders of an organisation is the biggest
asset of all. Speaking at the India CFO Awards
2001, Sebi chairman GN Bajpai said: "CFO
has to manage the situa-tions where there is a
choice be-tween pecuniary prosperity and ethical
poverty." At a function in Mumbai, the title
of the CFO of the Year for 2004 was conferred
upon Tata Motors executive director-finance &
corporate affairs, Praveen Kadle.
Speaking
on the occasion, Mr Kadle said: "This is
an honour for all my colleagues in Tata Motors
from all departments including the finance department.
All the initiatives that we undertook during the
recent trying times received full support from
the entire company, right from the shop floor
worker." Commenting on the awards on behalf
of the jury, former chairman of SBI and Trai,
MS Verma said that increasingly CFOs are associating
themselves with other business functions.
More
and more of them are intolerant towards unethical
practices, added Mr Verma. Giving his opening
remarks, BNP Paribas country manager & CEO,
Frederic Amoudru pointed out that challenges for
the CFO involve the balancing of ambition and
prudence, in line with the interest of the stakeholders.
BNP Paribas was the principal partner, while NDTV
24X7 and Sun Microsystems were the associate partners
for the event.
