Tata Indigo launch after October

Ludhiana: Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (Telco), the country’s leading automobile manufacturer, will launch its new ‘Tata Indigo’ car in the ‘C’ segment any time after October this year, Telco’s VP (marketing), passenger car business unit, Rajiv Dube said today.

Talking to media persons after the inauguration of Tata’s second dealer here, Dube said that Tata Indigo will be priced somewhere between Rs 5-7 lakh.

"The car is designed to be the most spacious and comfortable sedan in the ‘C’ segment with class leading ride and handling characteristics," he said, adding that the sedan will be powered by an 85 bhp petrol and a 62 bhp turbo-diesel engine.

He said that it has a large 500 litres of trunk space and 42 litres of fuel tank capacity.

Dube said that Tata Engineering has sold more than 1,90,000 Indicas in the country since March 1999.

"It enjoyed a market share of 13.1 per cent in the overall car and utility vehicle market in the year ending March 31 2002."
