New
Delhi: As part of a new solutions-driven product
development strategy, Telco is focusing on industry-specific
transportation solutions particularly in the core
sector.
Speaking
to the Economic Times, Ravi Kant, executive
director, commercial vehicles business, Telco,
said: "We are looking at a range of industries
where we can cater to the entire transportation
needs. In cement, for instance, logistics is about
a third of all costs (around Rs 10,000 crore).
We are expanding our focus across other core sector
industries like steel."
The
solutions focus will kick in right away and will
span the second phase of the company's product
development strategy under which new products
in the top and bottom end of the market will be
rolled out.
"Under
the second phase, which will commence in another
one-and-a-half year, we plan to bring in 44 and
49 tonners at the top end and the small models
in the 0.5 to 1.25 range," Ravi Kant said.
In the third phase, Telco plans to roll out "scaleable"
world class models on its CV platform.
To
make its solutions focus more effective the company
has already put in place "focused teams for
logistics solutions" and the new thrust will
help Telco "evolve from a chassis producer
to application-oriented vehicle maker to a solution
provider", Ravi Kant said.
Indeed
all future product development and upgradation
would "go hand-in-hand with these industry-focused
teams," he added.
As
part of the solutions strategy, Telco is setting
up a "key account management" which
will take responsibility for "key account
needs", Ravi Kant said.
That
would include offering a range of services like
annual maintenance contracts, help with purchase
decisions etc. The solutions focus, the company,
will help it establish a relationship with the
end user of its products.
"This
way, we would be selling on value and building
loyalties," Mr Kant said.
