Tata Metaliks successfully completed its maiden Blast Furnace relining in 33 days and commenced operations w.e.f 30.10.00. Taking advantage of the shutdown, Tata Metaliks simultaneously completed two projects successfully, viz :-

1. Enhancing furnace capacity from 90,000 tpa to 1,30,000 tpa, and
2. Augmenting its power generation capacity from 2.20 MW to 2.76 MW.

On account of lower production due to such aforementioned shutdown and absorbing relining expenditure of Rs.163 lakhs incurred during the 3rd Qr., the financial results for the Qr. Oct. - Dec., '00 was adversely affected, and the Company could achieve a net profit of Rs.2 lakhs, as against Rs.94 lakhs during the 3^rd Qr. in the previous year. However, for the 9 months period ended 31.12.00, the Company recorded a net profit of Rs.557 lakhs, as against Rs.124 lakhs during the same period previous year. The Board of Directors recorded the above points at its meeting held on 28.01.01.
