Tata Metaliks gets 350 acres for expansion in Kharagpur
Business Standard — September 27 , 2005

West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) has identified 350 acres of land for Tata Metaliks' expansion and diversification plan. Speaking on the sidelines of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Manufacturing East, Harsh K Jha, managing director of Tata Metaliks, said WBIDC had identified 350 acres of land for the company, adjacent to its existing plant at Kharagpur. The company had asked for 500 acres and it would not be possible to carry out further expansion at the location.

Jha said the company could at best put up a 0.5 million tonne plant on this plot of land but beyond it the company would have to look for an alternative location for further expansion. The land identified for the plant was farmland and Jha said that the cropland was used for a single crop. The land was being acquired by WBIDC and would be resold to Tata Metaliks. The final report for the project was expected to be completed by October-end.

When asked how the company proposed to raise resources, Jha said that it would not be difficult for the company to raise resources. He pointed out that in the present day companies were raising resources many times the turnover of the company. The move to diversify was part of Tata Metaliks' conscious effort to graduate from a one-product company.
