Promoted by Tata Steel and assisted by the West Bengal
Industrial Development Corporation, Tata Metaliks was
set up in partnership with Tata Korf Engineering Services
as a technology consultant and KTS Brazil as the technology
supplier.
Commercial production at the company’s factory commenced
in April 1994, with an installed capacity of 90,000
tonnes per annum (tpa), which was upgraded to 130,000
tpa in October 2000. Tata Metaliks has over the years,
consolidated its operations by significantly improving
its plant productivity. It achieved a production level
of 138,000 tonnes of hot metal in 2002-03, an increase
of nearly 55 per cent over its initial installed capacity,
and expects to surpass this level by a significant margin
in the future.
Areas of business Tata Metaliks is engaged in the business of
manufacturing and selling pig iron. Its plant located
at Kharagpur (West Bengal), consists of a mini blast
furnace and related facilities, including a captive
power plant.
The company’s geographical footprint covers, in addition
to its principal markets in the eastern and northern
foundry belts of India, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates,
Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia and Bangladesh.
Community
initiatives
Tata Metaliks has always over the years endeavoured
to be a responsible corporate citizen and has supported
several community initiatives. Its efforts in this and
related areas have been recognised by the Confederation
of Indian Industry, which conferred its human resource
award on the company for two consecutive years: 2000
and 2001.

Apart from the factory near Maheshpur village, the companys
registered office is at Kolkata.
