Delegation
from Bangladesh visits Tata International

Rahman, executive chairman, board of investment,
Bangladesh led a 16 member delegation to Tata
International on July 14, 2004.
The delegation
interacted with Mr Sudhir Deoras, managing director,
Tata International, Mr Alan Rosling, director,
Tata Sons, Mr Syamal Gupta, chairman, Tata International
and director, Tata Sons and other senior managers
present from Tata International, Tata Motors,
Tata Chemicals, Tata Power and Tata Services.
Tata International made a brief presentation on
the Tata Group and Tata International’s global
footprint. Sujay Nag from our Bangladesh office
briefed the delegation on the contribution Tata
International makes to the foreign exchange earnings
of Bangladesh, by sourcing leather (US$ 4,170,000
worth in FY04) from Bangladesh, the basic raw
materials being imported into Bangladesh for their
various industries, and outlined the scope of
further business possibilities there. N. Ramachandran,
resident manager, Bangladesh for Tata Motors gave
a briefing on TML’s operations in Bangladesh,
which include 20,000 commercial vehicles and 1,700
Indica taxis which ply there, and a strong after
sales back up.
Mr Rahman
urged the Tata Group to invest in Bangladesh under
the liberalised FDI regime prevalent there. The
meeting explored the possibilities for further
business in the areas of power, infrastructure
development, IT services and education, bicycles,
ceramics, leather, garments, engineering products,
and steel.
