Tata Interactive Systems (TIS)
received the Reader's Digest Pegasus CSR Gold Award
in the category "Contribution to Society - Imparting
Education" at a presentation ceremony held at the
Taj Lands End in Mumbai on December 12, 2007.
The Pegasus CSR Awards (www.rd-india.com/csr2007)
have been instituted to recognise outstanding work done
by socially conscious companies. The awards identify
best practices and innovations of Indian corporates
in fulfilling their responsibilities to diverse stakeholders.
In this process, Reader's Digest also aims to sensitise
corporates to their role as good citizens of a fast-developing
nation.
Sanjaya Sharma, CEO of TIS, said,
"It is a testimonial to our continuing commitment
to improve the quality of education and make learning
accessible to students with learning difficulties. It
was awarded for our various CSR initiatives, taking
into consideration our partnerships, approach, deployment,
voluntary activities and results."
Some of TIS's multi-pronged initiatives
to spread LD awareness and promote remediation include
the highly successful annual Tata Interactive Learning
Disability Forum (TLDF); a long-standing partnership
with the LD clinic at Sion Hospital, Mumbai; proposals
for changes in the medical and teacher training curricula
and the development of a book, Brain Teasers for LD
students and their parents, among others.
