Tatas' BPO outfit eyes No.3 slot in 2-3 yrs
The Financial Express — June 22, 2005

Far away from the country's usual BPO hubs, the Tatas have quietly entered the BPO business and hired upto 4,000 employees and $116 million revenues in just 10 months of starting operations. India's largest BPO outfit WiproSpectramind has 15,000 employees. The Tatas have been running a dedicated, fully-owned business process outsourcing-cum-call centre service outfit called E2E Servisol at three locations in Hyderabad, Pune and Mohali (near Chandigarh).

E2E handles its group telecom companies' call-related and support services. The Tatas plan to make E2E one of India's top three BPO players in the next two to three years. Tata Industries managing director and member of Corporate Group Centre, Tata Sons Kishor A Chaukar said:

"The company started off with 300 associates, mostly from VSNL and Tata Teleservices, to handle all the group telecom companies' call centre and support services. We are targeting 8,000 plus associates in the next two years. Our target is to become one of the top three players in the next few years in the BPO/Call centre arena."

The company is planning to expand its line of activities beyond telecom to high-end services. "To achieve the said target, E2E Servisol has decided to reduce the dependence on Tata group companies and has decided to rope in international clients for its BPO operations," Mr Chaukar said. "We believe that by 2007-08, the company will have a manpower of 8,000 and out of which 5,000 will be of domestic and the remaining 3,000 will be for overseas clients," he added.

"The scope is very large and we are confident of growing faster than expected. Further, as we move towards high-end BPO services the company will attain its goal," he added. Tatas have earmarked Rs 250 crore capital expenditure for future expansion and infrastructure, he said.
