Elxsi banks on visual computing

Tata
Elxsi, part of the Rs 45,000 crore Tata group,
has identified visual computing labs (graphics
and animation content division) as its growth
driver.
Started a year ago, this division is expected
to contribute significantly to the Rs 111 crore
company.
This a major shift in its strategy, as earlier
the company was placing its bets on design and
development services division to power its growth.
Visual computing labs has recently bagged two
major projects from a prestigious Hollywood studio
and is planning to more than double its head count
to strengthen its operations. It is planning to
recruit 110 employees to its division.
Speaking to Business Standard, K Chandrashekhar,
head, visual computing labs, said, “The company
is giving lot of thrust to the visual computing
labs unit, because of the huge potential in the
entertainment and gaming industry. Entertainment
is a $63 billion industry, while gaming is a $53
billion industry.” “Towards this, we are planning
to increase our pool of creatives,” Chandrashekhar
added.
The design house that offers animation, gaming
and special effects for the global entertainment
and broadcast industry has worked for some of
the recent Bollywood projects such as Kal Ho Naa
Ho, Fun2Shh among others.
The division has operations in Mumbai, Bangalore
and US. Meanwhile, Tata Elxsi also concentrating
its energies on acquiring intellectual properties
(IP), the company has registered a number of patents
in the recent past.
