Tata
Coffee, is planning to relaunch a slew of brands
including Tata Cafe, Tata Kapi, Tata Coorg Pure,
and Tata Coorg Double Roast. Initially, these
brands will be available in the southern market
and later may be taken national. "We are
revamping the brand portfolio and will be relaunching
these brands shortly," Homi R Khusrokhan,
managing director of Tata Tea, said. Tata Coffee
is a subsidiary of Tata Tea. Mathew Xavier, general
manager of Tata Tea said: "We will be relaunching
these brands in the southern market first. However,
we do not rule out the possibility of relaunching
these brands on a national basis."
Tata Coffee has already integrated its marketing
network with Tata Tea. The two companies now have
a single national marketing organisation and Tata
Coffee’s branding, sales and distribution is now
looked after by Tata Tea. Xavier, however, ruled
out the possibility of a price hike following
the relaunch. Khusrokhan was speaking to newsmen
at the inauguration of Tetley’s first vending
machine at Churchgate station in Mumbai.
He admitted that Tata Tea is a late entrant into
distributing the Tetley brand through vending
machines. "We will be installing a Tetley
outlet at the Bangalore airport shortly and this
will be soon followed by vending machine operations
in other target cities across the country. The
company will be setting up 200 such vending machines
across the country in the first phase," Khusrokhan
said.
Meanwhile, in the same vein, Kanan Devan, its
tea brand in the popular segment, will be relaunched
shortly. "We got a basketful of offerings
at various price points for the consumer,"
Khusrokhan added. The Tetley vending machines
will be operated through franchisees. Tata Tea
has recently bagged the contract from South Central
Railway Board for setting up 100 vending machines
at railway stations. Khushrokhan hopes to increase
the size of the premium segment, which today accounts
for roughly 7-8 per cent of the total estimated
845 million kg tea market, with the vending machines.
He also did not rule out opening up of tea parlours
at a later date.
