Profile
Tata Coffee (formerly known as Consolidated Coffee) is a subsidiary of Tata Tea. Subsequent to the merger of Coffee Lands and Asian Coffee with Consolidated Coffee, the company has become Asia's largest integrated coffee company.

Its activities range from the growing and curing of coffee to the manufacture and marketing of value-added coffee products.

The company owns about 15 per cent of the country's coffee curing capacity and exports around 65 per cent of the coffee grown on its estates.

Areas of business
Tata Coffee grows coffee and tea on its own estates, processes the beans, cures the coffee, exports green coffee, manufactures instant coffee and retails coffee under its own brands in the domestic market.

Its activities range from the growing and curing of coffee to the manufacture and marketing of value-added coffee products.

Apart from coffee and tea, pepper and cardamom are also grown on its estates as inter-crops.

It manufactures and sells instant coffee, both in local and overseas markets with a significant presence in Russia and CIS countries.

In the green coffee segment, Malabar Monsoon, Mysore Nugget Extra Bold and Robusta Kappi Royale are three of the prominent specialty grades of Indian coffee it grows and processes.

In the domestic markets, Tata Coffee has recently introduced Mr Bean, a quality product that is made from the finest coffee beans grown on its plantations. It has a chain of fresh roast and ground retail coffee outlets known by the brand name 'Tata's Coorg Filter Coffee' in the state of Tamil Nadu. The company also has a big presence in the coffee and tea-vending segment. Tata Coffee also supplies instant coffee to the institution segment through its popular brands Tata Café and Tata Kaapi.

Tata Coffee also deals in plantation requirements such as fertilisers, agri-chemicals, estate implements, and tyres and tubes. It grows and sells timber as well.

Location
The Coorg district of Karnataka, India, is one of the main coffee growing regions in India and the main operations of Tata Coffee are in Pollibetta, in the southern part of Coorg. The company owns 18 coffee estates where the coffee is entirely shade-grown. These estates are located in the districts of Coorg, Hassan and Chickmagalur in Karnataka and Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu.

It has six tea gardens, two in Karnataka, four in Tamil Nadu and one in Kerala.

The company has one curing works – Kushal Nagar in Coorg district of Karnataka.

Tata Coffee has two instant coffee manufacturing facilities. One at Toopran near Hyderabad in the state of Andhra Pradesh and another at Theni near Madurai in the state of Tamil Nadu. It has an installed capacity to produce over 6,200mt of instant coffee. The company is also setting up a freeze-dried instant coffee manufacturing facility at its Theni plant.

Achievements and awards
Tata Coffee has contributed significantly to the growth and development of Indian coffee. The first chairman of the coffee board of India, when it was formed in 1943, was Ivor Bull, the then managing director of the erstwhile Consolidated Coffee. The company takes pride in its efforts towards corporate social responsibility and the estate workers enjoy the highest living standards and congenial working conditions.
